Radar Jammers - A Federal Offense
Radar jammers seem like the perfect solution to avoiding a speeding ticket. However, radar jammers are against the law in all fifty states and can carry a fine of $75,000. That makes the $100 ticket not seem so bad!
Radar jammers are a bad idea because of their illegal status. Jamming or attempting to jam a police radar gun is a federal offense. If you are caught violating this you could be nailed with a $75,000 fine! However, companies are still manufacturing and marketing radar jammers as effective devices for avoiding a speeding ticket. Most jammers are ineffective. This is most likely why, although the federal government has asked these companies to stop manufacturing radar jammers, the companies have not been prosecuted for doing it.
While radar jammers are illegal, laser jammers are not. This could be in part because radar jammers are regulated by the FCC whereas laser jammers are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. Laser jammers, unlike radar jammers, have been found to be effective in making laser guns ineffective. Laser jammers are even more effective when used in conjunction with a radar/LIDAR detector.
Some areas such as Virginia, the District of Columbia, and most of the Canadian provinces have bans on Radar Detectors
as well as radar jammers. To enforce these bans, radar detector detectors have been created. However, the radar detector and jammer industry simply began developing their products to be undetectable by these devices.
There are federal laws that make radar jammers illegal in all fifty states. Some states, such as California, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Virginia, Washington DC, North Carolina, and Utah, specifically ban radar jammers. It is possible that laser jammers may soon become illegal as well.
Rather than risk a $75,000 fine, try choosing a different method than radar jammers to avoid a speeding ticket. If you live in a state that allows radar detectors, they can be effective.
